A cut-glass bottle, stoppered with a
crystal globe, reflecting every shade
from teal to turquoise
attar of roses, redolent with crimson petals
lifted by the gentle drift
of jasmine on a balmy night
refreshed by salt-sea-spray
a tang of lemon, essence of fresh-laundered
sheets and new-mown grass
tomatoes—ripened on the vine
vanilla haze of melting cream
sliced strawberries in a china bowl
the fullness of the monsoon rains
smell of thunder in the air
damp earth, and misty river vales
all these I bring to you, my love,
the scents of summer to perfume
your dreams in winters wilding winds.

I was simply scrolling by and felt inclined to look because of the interests. It can be rather too soppy an area. The Samhain piece is extraordinarily good. I like this too - I aplogise for skipping over writery-bits, I'm here to look at work and I even must apologise for my own writery waffle. When one selects poetry and finds nowt but critique -(there is a literary criticism section:) it shakes faith in substack. But there, I said grow organically and that's how it's going, which is most gratfying:) Thank you, Alex
I will remember this as the seasons change Josie. I will look forward to my perfumed dreams in winters wilding winds. Thank you
