LISTEN NOW
We are three women, Alisha, Aoibhín and Josie, who represent the three stages in a woman’s life: Maiden, Mother and Crone. These are ancient archetypes, and the three forms of the triple goddess, whose qualities we hold within us.
In this episode we delve into:
The significance of Bealtaine/Beltane, its traditions, and the connection to nature.
The importance of community, the journey of life, and the role of artistic expression through dance.
Finding joy in simplicity and the acceptance of life's realities.
Solar Bealtaine/Beltaine 1st May, Lunar 12th May 2025
Beginning
We two women met on Substack in July last year, in Beth Kempton’s Soul Circle and immediately connected across the Celtic Sea, Josie Rashmi Smith in West Wales and Aoibhín in the East of Ireland.
By the Autumn Equinox, we knew we would create something together.
The seed was planted.
With the coming of Spring, we invited Alisha, Josie’s granddaughter, to join us and Maiden, Mother, Crone was born.
We are all deeply rooted in the Celtic West of these Islands. The land and mythology are important to us, indeed they are part of us, as we are part of them, and will flow through our words and into your ears.
Alisha Teasdale is a final year student of dance in Falmouth University. She brings the energy of the Maiden to our conversations.
The Maiden represents youth, new beginnings, the start of the growing season, enchantment, the waxing of the moon. She is the first form of the goddess, Brigid, or Branwen in our Celtic tales. She is the vibrant energy of life.
Aoibhín is a writer, a women’s health physiotherapist and a mum to three living children and three babies who did not make it to this world. She is the one who represents the Mother in our trio.
The Mother is the origin, the source, the bearer of life, the sustainer and nourisher. The Mother is the second form of the goddess, Danu or Don, she represents fertility, power, ripeness and the luminous beauty of the full moon.
Josie Rashmi Smith is a an author and poet, meditator, business woman, mother and grandmother. She proudly takes on the mantle of the Crone.
The Crone symbolizes maturity, wisdom, repose, death, endings and the waning moon, she is the third form of the goddess, the Cailleach, the Morrigan, Ceridwen. The Crone has transmuted the blessings and challenges of life into the light of wisdom. She has the ability to see far, and look into the spaces between worlds.

What a lovely discussion across generations of being a woman in this world at different phases of life. It is a practice to reflect on what is blossoming in our lives. My attention can so readily be drawn to concerns and problems. There is always blossoming and I benefit immensely from recognizing it in my life.
As a crone myself, and a US citizen, I am fortunate to have the capacity to hold up a sign and march to protest against the terror leading the US just now. It is amazing how standing up and voicing my views again and again helps relieve the built up helpless that accumulates daily unbidden.
It is, however, perhaps even more essential to ensure that I am recognizing where joy lies in my life and staying grounded in that. Over the years, I have come to find that balance fuels efficacy. And, connection fuels balance. Maiden, Mother, Crone helps me feel connected. As an elder, I am more mindful than ever of the responsibility to use my time wisely. Hearing and watching Maiden, Mother, Crone was a great use of my time! Thank you all!
Happy Beltane! Thanks for this, it was delightful!
